House of the Dragon Star “Gutted” by Co-Showrunner Exit

Amidst the highly successful launch of Dragon HouseHBO announced that one of the pioneers of the new show Game of thrones The prequel program will be terminated in the second season. Miguel Saposhnik will continue to serve as executive producer in Season 2, but he won’t be directing new episodes and Ryan Kondal will be the sole showrunner. Taking a smaller creative role in the series moving forward was ultimately Sapochnik’s decision, but it disappointed some in the cast.

Recently appeared Steve Toussaint, who plays Corlys Velaryon EW‘s West Westeros The podcaster said he was “frustrated” to learn the news of Sapochnik’s departure in season two.

“We have this ‘damaged’ English phrase,” Toussaint explained. “I was like, ‘Oh no!’ Ryan called me, because I was shooting something in Belgium. And so, I got a call from Ryan one night, just saying, “Listen, this is about to break. I want you to know what’s going on and everything is going to be OK,” and so on. It’s Miguel’s decision. So I was disappointed.”

Sapochnik spent many years working on the acclaimed Game of thrones A prequel series, and there does not seem to be any harsh feelings affecting his exit from the series.

“Working in the world of Thrones for the past few years has been an honor and a privilege, especially spending the last two years with the amazing House of the Dragon cast and crew,” Saposhnik said in a statement. “I am very proud of what we accomplished in season one and have been delighted with the enthusiastic response from our viewers. It was very difficult to make a decision going forward, but I know it was the right choice for me personally and professionally. Doing so, however, I am deeply relieved to know that Alan will be joining the series He’s someone I’ve known and respected for a long time, and I believe this precious series couldn’t be in safer hands. It remains a part of the HBO family and House of the Dragon, and of course, I wish Ryan and his team success and all the best in season two and beyond.”
